To get the Mac Help utility, go to Finder, pull down Help,
select Mac Help.
Search for "screen dump" and then Taking pictures of
your screen, to get this window:

It is hard to believe, but the usual way you will take a
snapshot of a window is to hold down, and continue holding down,
these FIVE keys: Control,
, shift, 4, and caps lock. You should get a
round cursor that you can use to click in the window you want a
snapshot of. Then go to Word or FrontPage editor and paste
(Edit, Paste) it into your document or web page.
Unfortunately, it seems that you cannot do this with Macromedia
Dreamweaver. I'll keep trying.
When you paste an image into Netscape Composer, Netscape
prompts you to assign a name to the image file. The default
I have seen is image.jpg. This is pretty useless. It
would be really nice if it would assign a unique name based on
the name of the web page you are editing. I would recommend
that you assign a name derived from the name of the web page you
are editing. For example, for this page, I saved the image
file above as macintosh_window_snapshots1.jpg.
Even more annoying is this: if you try to paste in a revised
version of an image and try to give it the SAME name as the
previous version, Netscape will ask you if you want to replace
the previous version, you will say Replace, and then it will
paste in the PREVIOUS version! Not the new one! So
you will need to give the new version a name distinct from the
old version. I don't understand why!
