The photocopier that was moved into Room 401 in February 2009 can be used to scan documents to produce black and white PDF files which are emailed to you. You can use the sheet feeder or place the original on the photocopier glass.
To start, press the circular button in the center of the console to light up the green light next to SCAN/SERVER. In the display window, touch the box labeled NETWORK. If you have had a scan sent to your email address before, your email address should be on the list. You might need to use the arrows to scroll through the list. If not, touch Address manual input and add your email address. Be patient, it takes a little while. Then press OK and you should see the screen where you can choose the settings you'd like to use.
In my experience, the best settings for scanning handwritten documents to get clear, readable PDF files with small file sizes are these:
Once you're happy with the settings, press the big green Start button.
If you want to scan multiple pages from originals that you need to place on the photocopier glass, first press STORE on the display window, then place the first original, then press the Start button, then the next original and Start, etc. When you're done, press STORE again, and then press Start to have it email the PDF to you.
When you're done, press the center button to return the green light to COPY. This way, no one will accidentally scan something and email it to you.
