Lecture
Notes. These
outlines will be made available some time after the the lecture to which they pertain. They do not consitute the
complete set of lecture materials and are not a substitute for
attending class. You
need to open them using PowerPoint 2007 (or later). If you try to open
them using a copy of Powerpoint 2003 that has been augmented to allow
opnening Powerpoint 2007 files, the contents may be misformatted due to font-size differences.

About Reading and Studying
-
A
major goal
of this course is to strengthen your ability to learn by reading.
-
With
regard
to memorizing information: If you make the material meaningful, it will
be easier to memorize. If you've only read a chapter once and don't
understand it very well, then it won't be meaningful to you and it will
be nearly impossible for you to memorize it all. So, first read the
text a couple times and give your self plenty of time (before it's time
to study for the exam) to ask the instructor and the TAs specific
questions about what you've read. Then the text will be meaningful to
you, and you'll easily be able to see which phrases are essential to
the topic at hand and which phrases aren't (thus making the
memorization-task more manageable).
- If
the video is part of BGSU's
digital video collection you can access it via http://wbgu.org/tls/
Once you log in, you may search for it by title.
- If
the film is owned by the instructor then you will have to arrange to
borrow it or rent it from a video store.
