Bali 2001

Home

In May and June of 2001, I was able to spend three and a half weeks in Bali, Indonesia.  I joined twenty-seven other people, either students or professors, from Bowling Green State University, University of Toledo, and Florida State University.  The main purpose of the trip was studying Balinese music, art, dance, and culture, but the participants came from a wide range of academic areas.

We stayed mainly in Peliatan, a small artistic village that is just south of the tourist city of Ubud, in south central Bali.  We took some daytrips and overnight trips to the south, to cities such as Kuta and Jimbaran, as well as to the east, to cities such as Candidasa and Amed.  (Please click on "Map of Bali" to see these locations.)

The pages on this website are for you to learn about Bali and possibly consider traveling there yourself.  Browse around this site to learn about general Balinese life, sights and sounds you will encounter while you are there, and the art forms that are such an intricate part of the culture.  If you have any questions or comments please e-mail me.
