Complete program is now available!!

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, extends a warm welcome to the Section for its Annual Meeting which will be held Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, 2009. Almost all sessions and activities will take place in Olscamp Hall. This is a large classroom building with conference facilities. On Friday, we will begin in Olscamp Hall and then move to the Bowen Thompson Student Union for the contributed paper sessions and then return to Olscamp Hall for the rest of the meeting.  In general, we will have the invited talks in a large room, 101B, and on Saturday the contributed paper sessions will be in classrooms nearby. Other activities--registration, coffee breaks, book exhibits, and social hour and banquet--will all be in an adjacent large room, 101A.

Fred Rickey, a former Section member and old friend, will start things off and give a talk entitled ''Jared Mansfield: Ohio's First Mathematician'' on Friday.  The second invited address on Friday will be by Vickie Van Dresar from Ashland University speaking on "Canoe Do Math?"   The after-dinner talk on Friday will be by Keith Devlin with "Street Mathematics: And What We Can Learn From It."  On Saturday, we have two additional invited addresses.  The first by Sarah Greenwald entitled "Good News Everyone!  Mathematical Morsels from the Simpsons and Futurama" and then Keith Devlin will round out the talks with "When Mathematics Changed Us"

The Invited Speakers:

V. Fred Rickey
Vickie Van Dresar
Keith Devlin
Sarah Greenwald

There will be ample time to meet and greet old and new friends from around the state and compare notes. This is one of the major benefits of these meetings. Book publishers, including the MAA, will have displays in the large area devoted to breaks, registration, social hour, and banquet.

Sharing of ideas and projects are formally done in the contributed paper sessions.

As usual, student activities are an integral part of the Spring meeting with the seventh annual Student Team Competition taking place on Friday, April 3rd from Noon to 1:30 PM in Room 308 of the Bowen Thompson Student Union. Contributed talks by students are scheduled for both days. There is a free pizza party as well.  Bring a big group of students.

The meeting is preceded by the Ohio Project NExT Workshop for teachers entering the profession. They will then join us for the regular meeting.
