Currently serves as Professor and Adviser for the Department
of Interpersonal Communication. Dr. Makay has written books on topics
ranging from interpersonal communication to an anthology on freedom
of speech, including Public Speaking: Theory and Practice, (4th ed.
Kendall/ Hunt Publishers, 2001.) His research has been published in
The Quarterly Journal of Speech, Central States Speech Journal, Free
Speech Yearbook, Southern Communication Journal, Speech Communication
Annual, and the Journal of the Association of Communication Administration.
Dr. Makay is on the editorial boards for Free Speech Yearbook
and the Basic Course Annual (published by the National Communication
Association), while previously serving on the editorial boards of
the Communication Quarterly, Communications Studies, and Journal
of the Association of Communication Administrators. He has
been the editor of the Free Speech Yearbook and the Communication
Annual (published by NYSCA).
Courses Dr. Makay has taught include "Philosophical Foundations
of Communication Theory," "Rhetorical Theory," and "Rhetorical Criticism"
at the graduate level, and "Political Campaign Communication," "Communication
Criticism," "Perspectives on Freedom of Expression," "Persuasion,"
and "Leadership and Communication" for undergraduates.
