This seminar covered fundamental strategies of designing tables, graphs, and semi-graphics to present statistical evidence in scientific, business, legal, and financial presentations. As a result of my participation, I am better informed and prepared to teach these strategies to technical communication program students in a variety of our graduate and undergraduate courses.

how the increasing use of multimediaand alternative document structures work to shape what counts as knowledge in various disciplines

the effects of the diffusion of digital scholarship within the social system of academe

how multimedia integrated with text in a document affects the construction of its meaning by readers

Grants and Research Projects

Recipient, Ohio Learning Network Grant ($20,000) for development of the Digital Literacy Communication Studio, a project of the English Department, to assist faculty and graduate students in developing online courses, e-portfolios, and electronic theses and dissertations, 2004.

Recipient, travel grant ($600) to visit dissertation archive at Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany (CAS and Faculty Research Committee combined grant), 2003.

"Technical Communicators as Change Agents in the Innovation Diffusion Process." A proposal submitted to ATTW Conference 2005. Under review.

Conducted field research during summer 2005 at BGSU geology field camp in Durango, Colorado, to determine the feasibility of remediating the traditional manuscript field notebook to digital form. Currently analyzing data to report findings.

Conducted field research during summer 2007 at University of Michigan geology field camp in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to observe, interview, and analyze digital field notebook content generated by students in the field. Currently analyzing data to report findings.
