M.Sc. Thesis work 9/97-9/99

“Molecular marker-assisted selection for two major blast resistance genes and stability studies for yield attributes in rice ( Oryza sativa L.)”

•  Marker assisted screening of rice accessions for the presence of Pi-2 and Pi-1 (major blast resistance) genes.

•  Evaluation of selected rice accessions for yield and other growth parameters.

•  Stability analysis of selected rice accessions

 

Professional Honors

•  Recipient of University of Agricultural Sciences gold medal for having completed the degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding with distinction by securing the highest overall grade point average of 9.56 out of 10.00 during the year 1999.

•  Recipient of Dr. Shivashankar Memorial gold medal for the best M.Sc (Ag) student in Genetics and Plant Breeding during the year 1999.

•  Awarded Joint CSIR-Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship- National Eligibility Test (NET) held on 25.06.2000

Experience

•  Well-acquainted with molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques such as DNA and plasmid extraction, handling of BAC library, SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, southern blot, PCR based RAPD technique, STS markers, AFLP technique, RFLP technique, microsatellite analysis, plasmid preparation, plasmid cloning and transformation , restriction digestion, spectrophotometric estimations, primer designing, construction of molecular maps based on molecular marker data.

•  Working knowledge of statistical software and programs: SAS statistical package, IRRISTAT for windows, SPSS, STATISTICA, NTSYS, BSTAT, MSTAT, Minitab.

•  Working knowledge of genome analyses software and programs: QTLMapper V2.0, QTLCartographer V2.0, Mapmaker/Exp. V3.0, Mapmaker/QTL V3.0, Map Manager QTX, Map plotter, SAS statistical package, MapDisto, GeneFlow, Image-The finger print image analysis system, Vector NTI.
