1. The film begins by creating an uncertainty about whether David Aaams is dreaming or awake. One of the first things you might do is to see if you can determine in which scenes he is dreaming and in which ones he is awake. Be careful here and ready to change your mind since there are some surprises in store toward the end of the film.
2. What kind of a person is David Aaams? What seems to motivate him in his life? In general, how does he treat other people? Do you think he understands what it is to be a friend, what it is to love? What scenes or events in the film tell us about this?
3. We often distinguish between dreams and nightmares. In one sense a nightmare is just a kind of dream. In another sense, a nightmare is the opposite of a dream or a fantasy. In what sense is a nightmare the opposite of a dream?
4. David signs a contract with the LE (Life Extension) Corporation. In rough terms, what is the technology "cryogenic restoration" supposed to do? (Think of Benny the dog.) If you knew that cryogenic restoration worked, is it something you would want? Would it be a good thing or a bad thing?
5. A tough question: He chooses the "lucid dream plan." What does that involve? How might a life in which you could have everything you fantasize about having conflict with having friends or with loving someone?
6. How do you make sense out of the end of the film? Why does David finally choose as he does?
