Currently, I am an Instructor at Bowling Green State University, teaching first-year composition. It's my first year as full-time faculty but so far so good. This website provides samples of my work in the areas of teaching and research. Most of the teaching materials I have are under that tab. Other tabs should be fairly self explanatory.
My path to get to where I am was a long one that began in the corporate realm. I worked there for fifteen years. Two things were consistent for all of my positions and locations. First, I was always asked to rewrite or write materials for the company. Second, I was always the one asked to teach new employees the ropes. In my final position with a rather large corporation (150 locations in the U.S. and Canada), I had the opportunity to observe firsthand how important writing is. A couple of the managers I knew were deemed "unpromotable" due to their lack of writing skills. Not being all that happy in the environment, I wanted to change careers. I could do two things fairly well: write and teach. My path was set. I went back to school and received my Master's degree from St. Cloud State University in Teaching College English. Currently, I am finishing my doctorate at Bowling Green State University while teaching full time.
For the most part, my student seem to like me as evidenced by my evaluations and the number who take me for the next level of first-year composition if they were in one of the first two levels.
I hope you enjoy this site.
