This meeting is the start of the new year for BGCTM. The meeting will break down what BGCTM is all about and how it can help you in your profession. The meeting will also give you the opportunity to explore some math activities you can take and use in your classroom. It is never to late to start this file that will be used so often during methods and student teaching. BGCTM will also be giving away door prizes that will include a variety of cool items. Hope to see you there!
Each year, the OCTM host a statewide meeting for mathematics teachers that features hundreds of sessions where teachers share good ideas for the classroom. As a BGCTM member, you are also a student member of the OCTM, so registration for the conference is FREE. For details, contact Dr. Brahier or visit the conference program on the OCTM Web site.
Stop by anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 to meet with local teachers and select some activities you can take with you to "make" and use in your own classroom. This event is FREE for BGCTM members. This is a great way to learn a variety of new activities and games to utilize in the classroom.
ALSO underclassmen are invited to a special session from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. where you can meet with a panel of current students in mathematics education (Middle Childhood and Secondary) and professors to discuss your Spring schedule and concerns about the program, in general.
This conference will take place from about 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will feature dozens of local presenters at all grade levels, sharing teaching strategies, games, and ideas that work in their classrooms. Admission is FREE for BGCTM members. Mark it on your calendar. More information is coming.
This meeting is intended to start off our spring semester. We will be discussing what our calendar looks like for the rest of the semester. This meeting will also provide you with a look of what our affiliate organization, NCTM, has to offer. We will be taking a look at activties from previous World's Largest Math Event problems provided by NCTM. These activities are always a big hit in the classroom. Door prizes will be given out to those in attendance of this meeting. The door prizes range from educational books to manipulatives to a free membership to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
This meeting will have a keynote speaker discussing a current topic in mathematics education. The topic is still to be announced. Participants will then break out into workshop sessions in which they will participate in hands-on activities that can be used in the classroom.
