RESUME

ADVISOR

My research interests range from plant breeding, population genetics to evolutionary genetics and ecology. My previous studies include mutation breeding in Digitaria exilis and effects of environmental factors on the morphology, cytology and yield components of cultivated crops. I have also carried out studies on the evolution of plant mating systems.

I am currently working in the laboratory of Dr.Gabriela Bidart-Bouzat as a Ph.D. Student at the Bowling Green State University, Bowlin Green Ohio, USA. My current research focus on plant insect interaction with special interest in the evolution of structural defense mechanism in Arabidopsis thaliana. Presently, I am looking at the correlation between trichome numbers and the extent of damage on A. thaliana , level of induction of trichomes in genotypes exposed to herbivory and the effect of herbivory on the fitness of A. thaliana. I do hope to examine both the direct and indirect effect of herbivory on plants that are locally available in Bowling Green by carrying out survey of herbivory in natural populations as well as through manipulated experiments. Extent of herbivory will also be correlated with outcrossing and selfing rates. Genetic variations that may exist in natural population will be studied using microsatellite markers.
