Hello. I am Amira Akl, a graduate student at Bowling Green State University in the Rhetoric and Writing Ph.D. program. I have been an adjunct Composition teacher for 3 years at Owens Community College and Monroe County Community College. I also teach Gender Studies courses at the University of Toledo.

I have been fortunate to travel to the Middle East on several occasions both as a teenager and as a woman; my most recent trip was the summer of 2007. As an Arab American, I have benefited greatly from my heritage and ethnic experiences. Full immersion into such cultural and language differences as those that exist in Lebanon, forces strength in a person and poses a challenge, even to the most prepared. I have learned that there is always an unexpected learning experience waiting to be taken advantage of. I now speak fluent Arabic as a result of my two years spent in Lebanon and can safely say that I have been positively impacted by a foreign world.
